Bishopsworth residents elect two councillors to sit on Bristol City Council. At present both are held by the Conservative minority group. In May 2011 the seat now occupied by Tory leader Richard Eddy comes up for election.

Barrie has represented the Greens in local elections for many years. Recently he has been campaigning energetically against the proposals to build the South Bristol Link Road cutting right through the ward along King Georges Road and Highridge Green - in contrast to the sitting conservative councillor!
