Totterdown

Bristol South Green Party is one of four Green Parties in the Bristol area that work together to promote Green politics. Our policies are generally agreed city-wide and of course our priority is to get Green representatives on the City Council.

Charlie Bolton - Green councillorWe made the breakthrough in May 2006 in Southville with the election of Charlie Bolton as Bristol's first Green councillor.

There are plenty of big issues south of the river. The developments at Hengrove Park - and how best to get to them. The new hospitals. The proposed ring road, pouring traffic into quiet residential areas. The failing schools. The need for jobs. The road congestion and the air pollution that goes with it. The loss of open space, post offices and swimming pools. The pockets of poverty.

Having a councillor has brought new opportunities to influence council activities and to raise issues within the council, and many of our members are helping Charlie develop a strong local Green voice on a whole range of issues.

Bristol South Green party hasn't got all the answers, but it's doing its best to find them; it knows that the usual solutions just don't work.
