About Bristol South

Bristol South Green Party is one of two Green Parties in the city of Bristol, covering the area south of the river.   Along with the Bristol North Green Party, we work together to promote Green politics. Our policies are generally agreed city-wide and of course our priority is to get Green representatives on the City Council.

We made the breakthrough in May 2006 in Southville when Charlie Bolton was elected as Bristol's first Green councillor. Charlie stood down in the 2010 local elections in order to stand as a parliamentary candidate.. Tess Green (right) took up the banner for the Green Party in the local elections last May and convincingly held the Southville seat with an increased majority, for another 4 year term. Well done to Tess and all the team!

There are plenty of big issues south of the river. The developments at Hengrove Park - and how best to get to them. The new hospitals. The proposed ring road, pouring traffic into quiet residential areas. The failing schools. The need for jobs. The road congestion and the air pollution that goes with it. The proposed stadium on green belt at Ashton Vale, and all the 'enabling' development to make it happen.   The loss of open space, post offices and swimming pools. The pockets of poverty.  The impact of the ConDem cuts.

Having a councillor has brought new opportunities to influence council activities and to raise issues within the council, and many of our members are helping Tess develop a strong local Green voice on a whole range of issues.

Bristol South Green party hasn't got all the answers, but it's doing its best to find them; it knows that the usual solutions just don't work.

Meetings

We usually meet up each month to 'do the business'.
