Easton
Katie Buse stood as the Green Party candidate in the last local election held in Easton in June 2009, and Katie will be representing us again in Easton in the city council elections on Thursday May 5th 2011. In 2009, Katie got 26% of the vote for the Greens, coming close to Labour, and this year Katie is working hard to be elected as Easton's first Green councillor on the city council.
Katie lives in the heart of the ward in Chelsea Rd, and has been active in a range of campaigns on a whole range of issues, local, national and international. These include the ongoing campaign to protect the Railway Path, fighting for the rights of those with disabilities and actively standing up against unjust wars and for global justice and human rights.
Easton ward is a great place with lots of amazing people. It has a proud radical history stretching from the great factories at Netham and Greenbank to the mines of Easton and the great political figures that used to preach at the gates of St George’s Park. We have a mix of people like nowhere else in Bristol, and our ward is the best place to live in the city because of that. We deserve to be represented by somebody who cares for the ward all the time - not just at election time.
Our city has had one Green councillor since 2006. It’s already having an effect. Charlie Bolton has been the awkward voice on the Council, putting down the motion that helped save the cycle path, piling the pressure on for better public transport and more trains on our local line, leading the way on greener waste disposal, fighting climate change, and a whole range of other things.
Most of all, having a Green councillor has forced the other parties to start to account for their empty greenwash and hot air. Charlie made the other parties green up (a bit!), and pay more attention to social issues too. Southville voters showed how much they like having a Green councillor by re-electing the Greens last year in 2010, this time with Tess Green (yes, that really is her name!) with an increased majority. Progress is still far too slow, though – and we all know the clock is ticking.
A Green councillor makes a big difference. But one in Easton would make an even bigger impact - especially for Easton of course, as well as the whole of Bristol.
The Green Party is the only party that does not receive massive donations from big donors – we are answerable only to you, the voters. That is why we are the only party that is consistently increasing its voting levels, election after election, both in Bristol and all across the country.

Great Green Easton Litter Pick
On Saturday, 10th July 2010, a group of eight Green Party members collected litter from the streets of Easton to highlight the council's neglect of the area.
