Economic Policy
People and the planet before profit.
We think that our economy should not destroy the natural systems of the planet on which we all depend.
We think that wealth should be distributed more equally amongst people.
We support The Green New Deal put forward by the Party for creating green jobs.
The Green Party’s long term aim is to develop an economy that does not damage the natural systems of the planet and that results in a more equal distribution of wealth.
We believe in progressive taxation and regulating the financial sector, for example bankers’ bonuses.
In accordance with the Green New Deal we would invest in jobs that promote energy saving and jobs that generate energy using renewable resources. Our aim would be to make Bristol a leader in this field using our high tech expertise.
We would, within the constraints of national guidelines, develop a procurement strategy for BCC to encourage local suppliers to bid and win contracts. We would support the development of a local currency, encourage the council to use local savings institutions and encourage the development of local microfinance initiatives to help those without access to traditional sources of capital to start businesses to employ themselves and others. We would create posts for ‘Enterprise Coaches’. WE would apply planning rules to further these aims and make use of Section 106 agreements to ensure that developers meet their social responsibilities.
