The Green Party stands in elections at all levels. In Bristol, we stand candidates for Parish Councils, the City Council, Parliament (at Westminster), and the European Parliament.

Parliamentary elections

In 2010 we fielded Green Party candidates in all of Bristol's six urban constituencies.  The big breakthrough though was in Brighton Pavilion, where Caroline Lucas was elected to the House of Commons as Britain's first Green MP.

Local Elections

Bristol elects its 70 city council members 'by thirds' - that is, there are elections in three years of the four year electoral cycle, each covering about one third of the seats.  2011 brings the opportunity for residents in the south and east of the city to replace one of their current councillors.

In spite of the 'first past the post' electoral system, which delivers a council that doesn't reflect the voters' wishes, we have had a Green Party councillor (representing Southville) since 2006.  And it does make a big difference!

European Elections

The Green Party stood in every seat in the country in the last European Elections (4 June 2009) - and once again returned two MEPs to the European Parliament, representing South East England and London. You can find much more information about the south-west's European Election candidates and campaign here

Parish Councils

There are Parish Councils in some areas of Bristol and we have several councillors on them. These positions are not overtly political, but we do bring a Green view to the proceedings!
