Local Elections - May 2011

Diana_WarnerDiana Warner is the South Gloucestershire candidate for Filton Ward and is also standing for Conygre Parish Council.

I live close to Filton College and work as a General Practitioner in Hartcliffe, South Bristol. I work wholeheartedly for a fair and just society and speak out when there is need to do so. We all need full access to amenities, including leisure and health facilities and transport, and to live in flourishing and safe communities. These goals can only be achieved where there is a reduced gap between the richest and poorest in the UK. As a councillor I will work hard to encourage and enable both our community and everyone within it to flourish, while preserving and improving our environment. I will work cooperatively to improve Elm Park and other green spaces and to make sure that any new building developments also improve our environment.

I have two children, now young adults. As a GP I have designed a series of posters for Hartcliffe Health Centre aimed at empowering people to take charge of their own health and to use the facilities at the heath centre so that they can have the best health care.  I have been a Governor of Sefton Park Junior School, Ashley Down. I have led a demonstration by health professionals against the renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons programme. In 2007 I went on a solo peace walk from Bristol to Westminster to raise awareness of the intolerable living conditions in Baghdad at that time. During this walk I spoke to many people, including soldiers and families of soldiers, and later joined with fellow health professionals to speak to Stephen Williams, at that time my MP in Westminster.
