Hillfields

Green Party activist Rob Telford is the Green Party's candidate for Hillfields in this year's City Council elections on Thursday 5th May 2011. Rob is a teaching assistant.
Rob writes: "I would place the local community's wishes above any narrow political interest and be an energetic campaigner to improve the quality of life in Hillfields.
I have campaigned for fairness and justice for all of my adult life through non-governmental pressure groups. I joined the Green Party in September 2010 because I was dissatisfied with the direction that the three largest parties were taking, and realised that my fate was tied up in getting an honest, compassionate and reasonable voice heard in local and national politics.
I'm interested in grass roots campaigning, particularly in meeting people in Bristol and listening to their views. I am also passionate about democratic reform and I am campaigning for a Yes vote in the May 5th referendum so that our votes are no longer wasted every time an election comes around.
We should be making public transport safe, reliable and affordable, while giving greater access to pedestrians and cyclists. I believe that peaceful demonstrations (in Bristol or London) should be policed with public safety in mind, not with aggressive "kettling" tactics. I want to build cross-party campaigns and strengthen the rights of citizens of Bristol to petition their elected representatives so that they debate the issues that really matter to local communities."
Hillfields ward is in Bristol East parliamentary constituency and is part of Bristol North Green Party.
