Bristol Greens on London Demo against Bankers and the Cuts
Written by Geoff Collard Saturday, 02 April 2011

Last Saturday, a number of members of the Green Party from Bristol travelled to London to join the biggest demonstration in this country since the Iraq war demonstration in 2003. Well over a quarter of a million people - estimates varied between 250 and 500,000 people - marched in the capital, bringing the centre of London to a standstill.

The demonstration was organised by the TUC to protest at the public service cuts, job losses - and Cameron's ridiculous idea that 'we are all in this together'- which as the many placards pointed out is simply not true with the bankers continuing to 'earn' obscene sums of money. The demonstration was supported by people of all ages and from all walks of life. Despite the negative media attention focussing on the mindless aggression of a couple of hundred people smashing windows etc, the fact was that that was a tiny, tiny minority of all those who marched. The march was good humoured, with people dressing up and some very original placards against the bankers and their damn bonuses!
