Bristol Greens on the November March against Pension Cuts

Bristol Green Party members joined the march through Bristol city centre on Wednesday to show their anger at the public service cuts and attacks on pensions caused by the greedy bankers. The Green Party supports the unions and wants the bankers to bear the brunt of the economic crisis which they caused. We are outraged that the Government still refuses to cause the bankers any hardship, whilst the poorest in our society are really being hurt by these cuts. Cameron's myth that 'we are all in this together' would be a joke if it wasn't so insulting. Gus Hoyt, the Green Party's councillor for Ashley, joined Southmead Green Party candidate Chris Millman in holding the Green Party banner.

As public anger increases and the cuts bite deeper, there is still no acceptance by either Tory, Liberal Democrats or Labour that the globalised economic model is a busted flush. It is very likely that the Euro will implode, with serious consequences for all. But it is fundamentally because modern Western economies function entirely on huge levels of debt, and whilst this is finally being realised by Government, the proposed solutions are just more of the same, which is why it actually won't work and the Eurozone will fall apart.

The Greens have always said that modern corporate capitalism is unsustainable, because it is based on the idea of ever increasing growth - which by definition on a finite planet is impossible. An economy based on small scale local businesses is the only sustainable way of providing for everyone in the future in a world where the demands of a rapidly increasing population are outstripping the resources of the planet faster and faster.
