A challenge for council property bosses

Bristol's  council executive has been invited to sign up to a Green Party call for a full enquiry into the Stokes Croft disturbances in April.    Following an exchange of letters in the Evening Post, the Greens' press officer, Chris Millman, writes:

"I am grateful to Cllr. Negus for the information he supplies ('City council does act,' Post, 14,7,11) confirming Bristol City Council's ownership of the property known as Telepathic Heights at the time of the disturbances last April. This is not the only building in the Stokes Croft Area owned by the council. Many do not appreciate the role of the  Bristol City Council as a landowner in this part of the city.

My original letter was to publicize a petition calling for an inquiry into all aspects of the causes of disturbance in the Stokes Croft area, and I wonder if Cllr. Negus would now care to sign the petition.  Such an inquiry would give him a further opportunity to defend his department's reputation.  We do not prejudge any conclusion the inquiry might reach, we just want to get to the bottom of what actually happened.

Should he decide to do so, he will find the petition at http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk

Yours faithfully,

Chris Millman
