South Bristol Ring Road - How to Help

Here we suggest some of the ways that can make your opposition count

Join one of the opposition organisations

The Alliance Against the South Bristol Ring Road is developing a network of local groups (Stockwood, Whitchurch Park, Bishopsworth/Withywood and Hartcliffe) and broader local interest groups (like Bristol Friends of the Earth) and has affiliated to national organisation Roadblock.

The Alliance has plans for various awareness-raising events - please consider joining one of the walk and bike rides along the route on Sunday Sept 24 (details to follow).

They're also setting up a website and materials helping objectors to be an effective opposition to the road's promoters - (principally property developers and hauliers?).

Bristol Green Party has provided a political focus from the start, aided now by the election of Charlie Bolton to the council. As of August 31st, we seem to have been joined by the Labour group on the council, and by Bristol South MP Dawn Primarolo. [The other parties have not yet declared opposition to the ring road - in fact all of them helped vote the proposals into the Joint Local Transport Plan - but there are dissenters among them!]

Join the "nosouthbristolringroad" mailing list

This mailing list has been set up outside the Green Party, so that people opposing the road can network news, information, ideas and plans between themselves. If you want to keep in touch, please join it.

Volunteers wanted

Bristol Friends of the Earth want volunteers to join in a new campaign against the South Bristol Ring Road. They offer training, and the support of seasoned campaigners! More information from Jane ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
