Overwhelming Evidence of Human Generated Climate Change

Written by David Higgins Wednesday, 10 March 2010

The release on 13 February 2010 of a briefing note acknowledging a lack of clarity in reporting background data by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change combined with the events surrounding the publishing of emails form the University of East Anglia have furthered the public misapprehension that a scientific consensus does not exist in favour of climate change. A recent poll (1) found that four-fifths of people are unaware of the consensus or rejected it.

The Labour government wants to introduce yet more control over our lives. It has become apparent that the latest erosion of our civil liberties will be our medical records in the NHS. The government is introducing a 'trial' to have all people's medical records on a national database (initially only basic data, but it will be a short step from there to our complete medical history and records).

The recent debate in the City Council's planning committee about biofuels at Avonmouth highlights the problems that councils have in this country. Central government diktat is increasing inexorably. The Government at Westminster has far too much control over our lives, such as often to render impossible the ability of elected councillors to decide for themselves what is best for their local community. In these circumstances, the powers of local councils have become just a sham, a fig leaf for central government to claim it is committed to local democracy.

Defra Consultation on Supermarkets

Written by Geoff Collard Thursday, 18 February 2010

The government in the form of Defra (Department of Food and Rural Affairs) is currently consulting on restricting the power of large supermarkets to control prices they pay to farmers. This is good, but unfortunately the consultation doesn't say anything about supermarkets buying up the high street (like Stokes Croft).

But it's still a good opportunity to comment in this vein and make your voice heard. The consultation can be seen and commented on on the Defra website at:  http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/latest/2010/food-0113.htm

Read it and see what you think. An ideal opportunity to mention the high street and the megalopoly of the likes of Tesco........(and others).
