Proposed Bristol Arena - Charlie Bolton, 7 April 2005

To: Bristol Evening Post

Dear Sir

Congratulations to Kate Pollard of Totterdown for raising concerns about the arena (The Future starts here, 4th April).

The Green Party put out a newsletter around Totterdown recently raising precisely the concerns that she has expressed. Building an arena by the station makes some sense -it encourages people to travel to it by train. But you have to fear that many people will choose not to do so.

This means that those coming by car will be looking for places to park. A 10,000 seat arena - this could mean several thousand cars looking for space every night. 10,000 corresponds approximately to a Bristol City home gate.

I would like to see the Arena provide incentives for people to travel to it by public transport - how about cheaper tickets if you come by train? And, if the residents of Totterdown are to have Controlled Parking, perhaps the Arena could pay for it?

Perhaps those developing the arena could address these concerns.
