Action on plastic recycling is needed now - Christine Prior, 20 July 2005

To: Bristol Evening Post

Dear Sir/Madam

I have recently been asked to sign a petition asking for plastic to be collected weekly in the recycling box from our homes. This is apparently an expensive option because of the extra lorry journeys required due to the bulk of the plastic. The better option is to take plastic to the plastic banks, however there are only 6 of these banks in Bristol at the moment so we would ask the Council to take immediate action to provide plastic banks on many more sites and not to "wait until later in the year".

Production of plastic may well fall off when the price of a barrel of oil reaches $400/b and not the current $60/b at which point we may have to go back to paper bags and bottles.

Yours

Christine Prior
