Little Party Turn-Off - Glenn Vowles, 26 September 2006

To: Bristol Evening Post

Dear Sir/Madam

I watched the Liberal Democrat Party conference, and I note that they made a big thing out of their environmental policies.

Apparently they believe it's at the heart of everything they do.

I have tried to make some sense of this, but conclude that, at best, their policies are inconsistent.

For instance, if the environment is at the heart of everything Lib Dems running Bristol do, why is it that they are in favour of the South Bristol Ring Road, the expansion of Bristol International Airport as important for economic growth, and sending the city's compostable waste 100 miles to Dorset for processing instead of planning ahead to do it locally?

None of these can be described as environmentally friendly.

Perhaps the councillor for Knowle, Gary Hopkins, who I believe speaks on environmental matters for Bristol City Council's Lib Dem cabinet, could write to the Post to explain.

Glenn Vowles Knowle, Bristol.
