Letters > Gloucester Road Supermarket - Daniella Radice, 3 March 2007To: Bristol Evening Post Dear Sir/Madam I am writing on behalf of Bristol West Green Party in objection to the proposed development of a new supermarket on Gloucester Road. The principle reason for our objection is that supermarkets do not represent a sustainable future. The council repeatedly states that Bristol should become a sustainable city, such as in the recent launch of Bristol’s Green Capital launch but seldom pursues policies that will really make Bristol a Green city. We object to the development on the following grounds: 1. A new supermarket will damage the existing local economy of small shops through price competition. 2. A new supermarket with a 150 space car park will increase air pollution on Gloucester Road through bringing more traffic to the area, as will delivery vehicles. 3. The new development removes existing employment space in Bishopston currently occupied by small businesses. Yours Daniella Radice
