Letters > There Is a Better Alternative to Buses on the Railway Path - Daniella Radice, 8 February 2008To: Bristol Evening Post Dear Sir/Madam It was great to see such a huge turnout at the public meeting against the West of England Partnership’s plans to run buses down the Bristol to Bath cycle path. The Bristol Green Party has spoken out from the start against these plans, saying the buses should go as originally planned instead – down the hard shoulder of the M32.As a six-months pregnant cyclist I know how much better it is to cycle away from both traffic and fumes, and there are very few such routes in this city. How many of us allow our children to cycle on the city’s roads ? Very few I bet. Yet cycling is great exercise for kids; they need more safe places to exercise – not fewer. Bristol's Liberal Democrats have finally come out officially against the proposals today. Electoral mathematics mean that if just a few Labour councillors now make public their opposition to the plans, they could not get through a vote in the Council chamber, even with Tory support. And if that was the case, then the West of England Partnership would have no choice but to go back to the original, more sensible route. Yours Daniella Radice
