"Greens in Ties" to combat bowel cancer
30th January 2007
For immediate release
Bristol Green Party members were wearing the loudest ties they could find this week, as they backed a campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer.
Members are seen here at 'Fresh and Wild' in Clifton, in their new 'dress code'.
"We're raising money for the charity 'Beating Bowel Cancer'" explains Daniella Radice, of Ashley Green Party, pictured below with a child's potty used as a collecting box.
"Fresh and Wild" have been good enough to let us collect at their store, which is very appropriate given the importance of a good diet in cutting the risk of the disease."
Bowel Cancer is a condition that doesn't get talked about much - bottoms are hardly top of the list for conversation topics - but one in eighteen of us will suffer from it during our lifetimes. It can often be a killer, but if it's diagnosed in time it's completely curable.
"We have two special reasons to back this campaign" says Daniella. "One is that our 'Green' health policies are very much about cutting the risk of disease in the first place - for instance by eating healthy local food. And second, because one of our own members recently had bowel cancer. Fortunately, it was diagnosed in time."
"And the unusual sight of some of the Green Party wearing loud ties is a bonus!" added Daniella.
