Bedminster returns two councillors to the Bristol City Council; at present both of them are part of the minority Labour group. In May 2007, one seat will come up for election after a four year term.
Cath Slade will be the Bristol South Green Party's candidate for the City Council on May 3rd 2007.
Cath Slade has lived in South Bristol for 16 years. She is married
with 4 children, two of whom were educated at Ashton Gate primary
school.
She is a nurse at the Bristol General Hospital and has always
played an active role in the community. As a result of the Labour
government taking the country to war Cath became an activist for the
Green Party .
Cath is particularly concerned about the inevitable
closure of the General Hospital and its effects on the Greater
Bedminster community. There will be far fewer beds in the new
hospital and Cath fears that there will not be the resources to nurse
people properly at home.
Cath is a keen cyclist and is part of the campaign for a decent
public transport system for Bristol. She is currently supporting the
campaigns against airport expansion and the South Bristol Ring Road.
Clodagh Scott stood as our candidate in 2006. Although the seat remained Labour, Clodagh won a remarkable 20% of the votes (up from 6% in 2003) coming in well ahead of the LibDems.
The ward stretches from Ashton Vale in the west to the top of East Street, and includes the area south of the railway around Bedminster Road and Parson Street
