David has lived in Redland for almost twenty years and his children have attended local schools. He is a lecturer at Bath Spa University, where he teaches courses on its Business and Management programme. He was involved in setting up and organising the local campaign to oppose the war in Iraq and, during the 1990s, he was actively involved in the local Anti-Poll Tax Union. He is a member of Greenpeace, CND and Amnesty International. He sees himself as a ‘red green’, believing that a sustainable future can only be achieved through common ownership, under democratic control, of all major concentrations of wealth and power. David believes that a Green presence on Bristol City Council would make a significant difference. Through improving public transport, Greens would help to reduce the appalling traffic congestion in Bristol and the pollution caused by it. Through investing in schools, leisure facilities and public services, Greens would help to improve the quality of life of Bristolians. Through extending recycling, Greens would help to reduce Bristol’s massive ‘ecological footprint’ on the natural environment. As Green councillor for Redland David would fight to ensure that the future use of old Bristol North swimming pool meets local community needs and that the Gloucester Road remains an excellent local shopping area.
