Councillor Fi Hance has lived in Bristol since first coming here to study languages at university and has been ward councillor for Redland ward since 2009.
Fi worked for Oxfam for 11 years, initially for the campaigns team before working her way up to running the national fundraising events team. She has held numerous committee roles at Bristol council, having sat on Development Control (Planning), Licensing and Public Safety and Protection committees and also Children's Scrutiny Committee, and is Bristol City Council’s representative on the internal Severn Drainage Board. She is currently the Whip for the Green party councillor Group at City Hall.
In November 2015 Fi joined Bristol Council’s cabinet as Assistant Mayor, sharing the Neighbourhoods portfolio with a fellow Green councillor (the first example of this type of political job share in the country). Following this in subsequent years Fi took on Cabinet roles for health and wellbeing and later the portfolio for energy, waste and regulatory services, representing Bristol at the UN Climate Change ‘COP 23’ summit in Bonn. She was removed by the Mayor from this post when he decided to dissolve the so called “rainbow Cabinet” in November 2017.
In opposition, Fi has campaigned to call for an end to immigration detention, and for the council to tackle single use plastics pollution in Bristol. Locally she has pushed for action to tackle dangerous parking problems in her ward and challenged delays to bin collections.
Since her time with Oxfam, Fi has championed the rights of the refugees and has sat on the board of City of Sanctuary. She is a member of Redland and Cotham Amenities Society, Bishopston Society and Redland Green Community Association.
