Bristol is a great city and it can be so much better!
The Green Mayor and Bristol’s Green Party Council candidates wish to see Bristol continue as the leading Green city in the UK with a clear vision of a more sustainable, better future. Our particular focus in 2016 is on Clean and Affordable Energy, A Decent Home for Everyone, 21st Century Education and Skills and Sustainable Transport and Clean Air.
Tony Dyer - Green Party candidate for mayor
The Green Mayor will seek to end street advertising. This will include (but not be limited to) all billboards, advertising on telephone boxes, buses, taxis and street furniture. Studies have demonstrated that this boosts the local economy, as customers rely more on word of mouth and reputation rather than the subliminal bombardments of the multi-national corporations.
In 2015, Green councillors and campaigners, alongside Bristol Civic Society, opposed plans to install digital advertising hoardings at three sites in the centre of Bristol. Green councillors in Ashley ward, Rob Telford and Gus Hoyt, have campaigned over many years to remove a number of prominent advertising hoardings from one of the main routes to the St Werburghs nursery and primary schools.
